FoodLogiQ Discusses FSMA 204 and Enhanced Traceability at GS1 Connect 2021

GS1 Connect 2021 was virtual again this year, leaning into discussions on lessons and projections around a more digital food industry. The annual event, hosted by GS1 US, has the purpose of, “bringing trading partners together to network and learn about the value of using standards-based business processes and best practices for optimum efficiencies in managing the supply and demand sides of their value chain.”

During the opening remarks by GS1 US board members, MIT professor Dr. Sanjay Sarma emphasized that it has been a year of “digital everything,” with the pandemic accelerating adoption of new technologies and omnichannel sales. These sentiments were echoed in the closing remarks. Johnson & Johnson Worldwide Vice President Supply Chain Meri Stevens encouraged attendees to embrace the digital revolution and standards as the keys to building agile organizations in this moment.

FoodLogiQ is proud to have participated in GS1 Connect this year alongside our partners and customers.

Implementing a Traceability Program from Start to Finish

Representatives from IPC Subway and a major distributor discussed implementing a lot-level traceability program, from rollout to scan, as they continue to deliver food to restaurants through its robust network. With pending regulations and initiatives such as the New Era of Smarter Food Safety, they need to be able to tell the history of product movement from receipt to delivery. In this engaging session, they laid out everything from corporate buy-in, requirements gathering, solution design, rollout, and opportunities.

FSMA 204: Recordkeeping: Enhancing Tracking and Tracing of Food

Section 204 of the FDA Food Safety Modernization act requires the FDA to designate foods for which additional recordkeeping requirements would be required. In this session, Chick-fil-A joined FoodLogiQ to discuss how they are preparing for the proposed requirements and what actionable steps your company can take to get started by leveraging GS1 Standards to enable the digitization and capture of this critical data. This session included a live speaker Q&A.
